Novak Djokovic put in a stunning performance to win his seventh Australian Open title.The 31-year-old has now won three grand slams in a row, adding the Australian Open to his wins at Wimbledon and the US Open he won last year.And made the Serb take his game to superman levels, as in his record-setting 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 triumph over Nadal in 2012 in Melbourne, the longest final in grand slam history that lasted seven minutes shy of six hours.What he did to Rafael Nadal in the Rod Laver Arena turned what had been a keen debating point about their relative merits, along with speculation about Roger Federer’s longevity, into a confident assertion that Djokovic has moved into another area of excellence. “Under the circumstances, playing against Nadal, such an important match, it’s awesome”, the 31-year-old told reporters after needing barely two hours to extend his ideal record in seven Australian Open finals.Djokovic said a fast start had always been his plan. And will he be able to translate the winning formula to clay and win a fourth consecutive Grand Slam at Roland Garros?The win took him past Roy Emerson and Roger Federer on six Australian Open wins….
