GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Woodside: Congratulations to the U.S. women’s soccer team for trouncing Japan, the reigning world champions, by a convincing 5-2 margin to win the Women’s World Cup final. It is indeed sweet revenge for the U.S. women, who were narrowly defeated by Japan in a gut-wrenching penalty shootout at the last World Cup in 2011. The U.S. women now have the distinction of winning three World Cup championships since the inaugural tournament in 1991. Their victory was a perfect confluence of sheer determination, perseverance, hard work and exemplary team work. One thing is for sure: The women’s team has raised the bar much higher for the U.S. men’s soccer team when it competes in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
