The host team has been the revelation of this tournament, putting Ireland and Scotland to the Samurai in extraordinary fashion, and handily winning the other two matches as well. Their verve! Their swerve! Their SKILL! To see the way they took it to Scotland on Sunday, particularly, was to see the game as it was meant to be played, albeit on fast-forward. Somehow the mighty Japanese managed to attack from all points of the field, shift the ball wide, taking every opportunity that came their way and then – after building up a 28-7 lead – manage to hold on with extraordinary courage as the Scots roared back at them. In the end, oh flower of Scotland was bested 28-21 by the Brave Blossoms and to see the joy with which the Japanese team, and crowd, greeted the win was a wonder to behold.
