The Trump administration this week enthusiastically backed Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s plan to leave the European Union without a deal if necessary on October 31, and offered to cushion any economic hit with an immediate free trade deal. But any agreement would have to pass the U.S. Congress, which is split between Democrats in the House and President Donald Trump’s fellow Republicans in the Senate. Democrat speaker Ms Pelosi, who leads the Democrat majority in the House, today vowed to stop a US-UK Brexit trade deal if it undermines the Good Friday agreement.
