Liverpool face a mid-season trip to Qatar for the Club World Cup after plans for the competition were confirmed. The tournament will switch to a new format in 2021, becoming a 24-team competition hosted every four years. But FIFA have now confirmed it will run in 2019 and 2020 – with both tournaments being hosted in Qatar in preparation for the 2022 World Cup. Plans were rubber-stamped at Monday’s FIFA council meeting in Paris, meaning Liverpool will face a trip to the Middle East during their Premier League season as reward for winning the Champions League.
