Shoppers have expressed their sadness over the closure on Hull’s only full Marks and Spencer store. The last customers filed into the Whitefriargate store at around 3.30pm on Saturday as the famous name ended its presence in the city. On the final day shelves were bare and goods were being packed away as staff looked visibly devastated. While there is a food hall in Kingswood, the closure means Hull is the only city in the country not to have a full Marks and Spencer store. June Lofthouse, 83, east Hull, has been shopping in the store for 60 years. She said: “I am really upset and a lot of people in there have been crying. It is such a shame. “I met up with my friends in there and other groups had coffee mornings at the café. “My daughter works there and luckily she now has a job at the Beverley store. “The staff in there are wonderful and it is such a shame for them.” Hazel Bliss, of west Hull, has been a regular at the Whitefriargate store.
