The Government has set out its key worker definition to battle coronavirus – but many believe it is too vague and is leaving many schools and parents confused about who is eligible Boris Johnson’s decision to shut all UK schools and nurseries for up to six months from today has descended into ‘total chaos’ because the Government’s list of coronavirus key workers is so long many will have to open again on Monday. Experts had predicted that one in ten pupils and nursery children would need places in ‘skeleton schools’ until the Autumn – but it appears the true numbers will now be much larger because so many parents are required to keep the country running. Schools will now also be open during the Easter holidays with some headteachers drawing up weekend rotas. There is also widespread confusion over who qualifies as a key worker because the definitions in many sectors are still vague, with many having to ask their bosses if they are indispensable – or headteachers forced to choose themselves.
