The first victim of the volcano disaster on a New Zealand tourist island has today been named as tour guide Hayden Marshall-Inman. The victim’s brother, Mark Inman, confirmed his death and said Mr Marshall-Inman had ‘passed away doing the one thing he loved’. The tour guide is one of at least five people killed, but at least 20 others are missing and police say they do not expect to find any more survivors on White Island. Around 50 tourists were believed to be on or around the volcano crater at the time of the powerful eruption at 2.11pm local time on Monday. Eighteen survivors have been evacuated – some suffering severe burns – leaving an estimated 27 people unaccounted for. Police say the number of missing is in double figures, but refused to give an exact figure. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said 24 Australians were visiting the island at the time of the disaster, while three Britons were also listed among the missing by worried family and friends on the International Committee of the Red Cross website.
