A British mother and daughter were ‘badly burned’ in the New Zealand volcano disaster while on holiday together. Retired social worker Liz McGill, 67, and her daughter Heather, a 34-year-old product director, both suffered severe burns in the disaster on December 9. The pair, from Basingstoke, Hampshire, are currently understood to be in separate hospitals and are understood to have had multiple operations after being caught up in the volcano, which killed 16 people. They are expected to be in New Zealand ‘for some time’ and will need air ambulance transportation to the burns unit at Salisbury District Hospital when they return.
