It may not be right to say eight in eight years is one in each of the eight years. There may be some grey area somewhere, where there can be scope for manoeuvre. At least that is what the International Cricket Council (ICC) could be wanting one to believe although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is fuming over this. A fight is on the cards when the old guard of the BCCI goes to the ICC. The Future Tours Programme (FTP) of the next eight-year cycle starting 2023 was passed by the board of the ICC in Dubai yesterday despite opposition from the so called Big Three – India, England and Australia. But it is being said that eight ICC events in eight years is not the right way to interpret the FTP – there could be variance in volume. The ICC statement read: “The Board decided that the eight-year cycle commencing in 2023 will comprise eight Men’s events, eight Women’s events, four Men’s U19 events and four Women’s U19 events.” The BCCI says the ICC has scheduled a global event year from 2023 and contends it is not in the best interest of bilateral cricket….
