Emiliano Sala’s former club Nantes have reacted with anger at the decision to formally call off the search for his missing plane and demanded it be resumed. Players were in tears during training after Guernsey Police decided to end the hunt for the light aircraft carrying the Cardiff City striker and pilot Dave Ibbotson. The Argentinian’s sister, Romina Sala, begged rescue workers to keep looking for the plane because she feels her brother and his pilot are still alive. Guernsey’s harbour master Captain David Barker earlier confirmed the “difficult” decision to end the search, saying the chances of survival were “extremely remote”. The Piper PA-46 Malibu – a single-engine aircraft – left Nantes on Monday at 7.15pm, but lost contact with Jersey air traffic control after requesting to land. Sala signed for the Bluebirds for a club-record £15million fee last weekend and he had been due to start training on Tuesday.
