In a match that was akin to a heavyweight title fight, the Cityzens dug deep to pull out a 2-1 win, and close the gap at the top of the table to just four points, with 17 matches left in the season. The visitors could have taken the lead early in the contest, but John Stones’ goal-line clearance, with the ball just millimeters from crossing, allowed Manchester City to regroup. Sergio Aguero gave the hosts a halftime lead with a near-post rocket. The Reds came back into it in the second half, as Roberto Firmino headed in a cross from Andy Robertson in the 64th minute to draw Liverpool even. But it was a brilliant goal from Leroy Sane in the 72nd minute, which bounced in off the far post, that proved to be the winner.
