It was not a good weekend to be a lower league team facing a top six side in the third round of the F.A. Cup. But for other minnows going against top flight teams, there was joy as the final whistle sounded. Manchester City and Tottenham were each on the good side of 7-0 victories, while Chelsea and Manchester United both recorded 2-0 wins while some of their regulars got some much needed rest after the festive fixture period. But for Fulham and Leicester City, Sunday turned into a disaster. Oldham Athletic and Newport County, two League Two mid-table sides, both found late goals to be Premier League opposition. In the early match, Sam Surridge scored from the spot in the 76th minute to draw Oldham level with Fulham, then Callum Lang struck in the 88th minute to stun the Cottagers at Craven Cottage. Playing at home, Newport County’s Padraig Amond stepped up to his spot kick in the 85th minute and buried it, to give his side a win over Leicester City.
