BEAVER CREEK — For a European prime-time TV audience, the most memorable thing about Saturday’s super-G likely will be the three-way tie for third place, just the second triple tie for a podium position in the 53-year history of the men’s World Cup. The hometown fans who braved heavy snowfall and two weather delays enjoyed the novelty of watching Norwegians Aksel Lund Svindal and Aleksandr Aamodt Kilde tie Italian Dominik Paris for third place, 0.41 of a second behind winner Austrian Max Franz. But they’re more likely to remember this one as the day favorite son River Radamus made his World Cup super-G debut at age 20 on a course he slipped dozens of times as a volunteer course worker when he was growing up as an aspiring racer for Ski & Snowboard Club Vail. Radamus is considered a rising talent, having won three gold medals at the Youth Olympic Games in 2016 and two silver medals at Junior World Championships. He made his World Cup debut here last year in giant slalom and raced two other World Cup tech races since then, but Saturday marked his debut in a speed discipline.
