Wigan great Andy Gregory to join an elite club of rugby league legends

Andy Gregory is set to be inducted into the rugby league Hall of Fame. The former Wigan scrum-half is one of three greats who is expected to join 25 legends in the elite club.Gregory will be honoured at a dinner on Wednesday, November 7 at Elland Road, Leeds which is likely to be attended by current inductees including Billy Boston and Malcolm Riley.The Hall of Fame was established in 1988 and already includes Wigan greats Jim Sullivan, Eric Ashton, Boston, Ellery Hanley, Martin Offiah, Mick Sullivan and Shaun Edwards.A glance at Gregory’s impressive CV shows just why the panel of former players, historians, statisticians and administrators have deemed him worthy of a place.He was the first player to win the Lance Todd Trophy twice, the Challenge Cup five times and he also starred in six Ashes series against Australia.A former St Pat’s amateur, he also played for Widnes, Warrington, Illawarra, Leeds and Salford during his glittering career. The dinner will also see the presentation of the Golden Boot award to the world’s best player – this year, there will also be a women’s category – and ‘Golden Caps’ to those who have played more than 50 senior international appearances.
