Never Before Seen Pokemon Revealed in New Manga

The insanely popular Pokemon franchise is already home to hundreds of unique creations, not counting evolutions and other modified versions. While there have often been a few laughs about the creative team running out of ideas, it turns out that some Pokemon actually never saw the light of day for unknown reasons. Satoshi Tajiri, legendary video game designer and creator of the Pokemon franchise, was recently honored with an educational manga from publisher Shogakukan in Japan that offers an early look on how it all began. In addition to early design concepts for some of the most popular Pokemon in existence, the manga also contains a few “rejected” concepts that fans might find interesting. Taking to Twitter earlier today, video game designer James Turner shared a few pages to reveal four Pokemon that were “cut” back then. These include a deer-inspired “Diaa” (#56), a crocodile-inspired “Kurokki” (#62), a cactus-inspired “Kakutasu” (#67), and a shark-inspired Jaggu (#68). There is no word on why these particular concepts were scrapped but it would not be wrong to say that they only ended up impacting later Pokemon designs since there are already a few concepts based on cacti and sharks.
