The United States may not be competing in next summer’s World Cup, but don’t let that stop you from watching.The tournament, set for June 14-July 15 in Russia, could be one of the best yet, with at least seven teams capable of winning and the world’s three best players competing.Here are 32 reasons why I’m still going to tune in this summer: 1. The two best players of our generation will be there, and their games are appointment viewing. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the Steph Curry and LeBron James of modern soccer. When they have the ball, they can create magic. Their skill can be appreciated by anyone, even if you don’t follow soccer. 2. It’s the world’s second-best tournament. Behind the NCAA Tournament, which captivates the country in March, the World Cup is an enthralling event that brings together nations from across the globe and has games every day for two weeks. 3. There are almost always numerous upsets to enjoy. While the field typically narrows to the powerhouses, just like the Big Dance, teams like Denmark, Iceland, Nigeria and Senegal are plenty capable of springing upsets. 4.
