Futbol Club Cincinnati president and general manager Jeff Berding was one of a seven Cincinnati representatives who visited Houston on Wednesday in hopes of earning the city a bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.While FIFA, world soccer’s governing body, has yet to announce who will host the tournament, the U.S., Canada and Mexico have created the United Bid Committee in hopes of hosting the world’s largest sporting event across North America. The U.S. last hosted the World Cup in 1994.Eight cities campaigned Wednesday, Berding said when he returned to Cincinnati and spoke at the Price Hill Recreation Center on Thursday afternoon. Berding was there to promote FC Cincinnati’s partnership with the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, which made a futsal court. ”It was very informative,” he said. “People are well aware of FC Cincinnati. They’re aware of the renaissance that’s happening here in this region when it comes to soccer. They find it very appealing as they assess which cities are going to get it.”Eight cities participated in the session, which included a presentation highlighting Cincinnati’s strengths, then fielding answers.
