PATERSON – A new four-story middle school with capacity for 1,000 students will be built at the former Don Bosco Tech site on Union Avenue by 2021, officials announced this week.Paterson’s acting Superintendent Eileen Shafer said those details had been hammered out during a meeting she and her staff had on Tuesday with representatives of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority.The state agency initially wanted to build a school for about 680 students, Shafer said. “That was taken off the table after Paterson officials said they needed a larger building than that,” Shafer said during Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting.The state agency will begin demolition of the old Don Bosco building, where generations of Patersonians had attended school, aftersome environmental health issues are addressed, officials said.
