When Banana Gun dropped by the office to film a stripped-down two-song mini-set with Dirty Sunset’s Kevin Wiscombe sitting in on fiddle, I was struck by the playful rapport the four musicians shared. They were constantly cracking each other up as we were setting up to film them.Then, they launched into the understated country-soul of “With Love,” among the more sensitive moments of “Dance Monkey Down in Faux Town,” the album they’re releasing Saturday, May 20, at a Crescent Ballroom celebration. And just like that, the loopy energy they brought into the office was replaced by the earnest conviction with which guitarist Kevin Lloyd approached the vocal. At times, he appeared to be channeling a young Van Morrison.
